Democratic leaders inform Trump to not use memo to fireplace Rosenstein, Mueller

US President Donald Trump asked Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein where the Russian Federation investigation was headed and whether the Justice Department official was playing on the same team, a move that US media reported.

Rosenstein replied: "Of course, we're all on your team, Mr. President", according to sources that spoke with CNN.

The memo in question was written by Rep. Devin Nunes, chairman of the House intelligence committee, who has access to the source materials and wrote a four-page document arguing the used tainted materials to obtain a secret court warrant to surveil Carter Page, a campaign figure.

U.S. Representative Mark Sanford (R-S.C.) said a potential Rosenstein departure "raises more flags than it dismisses", while Representative David Joyce (R-Ohio) suggested both Special Counsel Robert Mueller and Rosenstein should continue their investigations unabated. Rosenstein oversees the probe, and critics fear firing him would clear the path for President Trump to target Mueller next.

The top House and Senate Democrats sent a letter to Trump on Friday warning that firing Rosenstein or Mueller would be considered an attempt to obstruct justice and spark a constitutional crisis. Some Republicans have publicly called for Mueller's probe to be shut down, and Manafort's attorneys have echoed the president's criticism that Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election is pursuing crimes that never happened. As a key member of Trump's campaign, which for months pushed the idea that Clinton should be imprisoned for various alleged crimes, Sessions said at his confirmation hearing that he would formally recuse himself from investigations into matters like Clinton's private email server and family foundation-a promise his office says he intends to keep. CNN has reported that Trump has been venting to his aides about Rosenstein in recent weeks and even raised the possibility of his removal.

The president has repeatedly attacked his own Justice Department throughout his administration.

Before the memo's release, Sen.

According to fired FBI Director James Comey's congressional testimony and previous reports citing White House staffers, President Trump demands loyalty from those who work for him.

"I think Rosenstein is going to have to come to the Congress and explain his role in extending it", DeSantis said.

Earlier on Friday, President Donald Trump refused to give a clear-cut answer on whether he was considering firing Rosenstein after Trump approved the declassification of a memo that alleges Federal Bureau of Investigation abuses its authority regarding Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act warrants.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is defending his deputy in the face of criticism from the president.
