Gronkowski 'ready to roll,' cleared from National Football League concussion protocol

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski spikes the ball after scoring a touchdown during the first half of an NFL football game against the Miami Dolphins Sunday Nov. 26 2017 in Foxborough Mass

Gronkowski spoke to reporters Tuesday night and indicated that he will play in Super Bowl LII against the Eagles.

"It's a split-second to make a decision", Gronkowski said.

"Everything ... I was able to do everything that I was asked to do out there on the field, so I'll be ready to roll in the game - I'll be full go, ready to roll ... full speed, taking on hits, blocking, running routes, whatever it may be".

This means Gronk will be eligible to play against the Eagles in the Super Bowl on Sunday.

Rob Gronkowski is hit by Barry Church of the Jacksonville Jaguars in the second quarter during the AFC Championship Game at Gillette Stadium on January 21, 2018 in Foxborough, Massachusetts. "It happens. Just gotta move on".

NFL Network Host Deion Sanders also joined Gronkowski and Blount on the Xbox Live set.

The extent of Gronkowski's participation in the coming Super Bowl remains to be seen, as doctors decide in the coming days whether to lift the concussion protocol.

The coach noted that Gronkowski had worn the red non-contact jersey previously, but not at Wednesday's practice.

"It's good to be out there with the boys", Gronkowski said after Thursday's practice.

But he's also an oft-injured player, having missed more than 20 games in his National Football League career because of aches, pains and surgeries. Jenkins understands the hard assignment in front of him but believes the Philadelphia defense can contain Gronkowski, Tom Brady, and the rest of the New England offense.
