OH police identified the two-year-old toddler found frozen on the porch of her Akron home on Friday, Feb. 2, as Wynter Parker.

The mother later told investigators that she had gone out with her 4-year-old son, leaving Wynter with the child's father, according to a statement from police.

While hospital officials refuse to discuss the specifics of Wynter's death, they offered winter-safety tips for parents.

She died after paramedics took her to Akron Children's Hospital.

The toddler was discovered by her mother at around 3.30pm unconscious in the midst of a -11 degree day. While the father was asleep, the 2-year-old wandered outside and was found by her mother when she returned home, according to detectives.

Temperatures in Akron on Friday ranged between 12 and 19 degrees, according to AccuWeather.

Upon finding her daughter unresponsive, Wynter's mother called emergency services, telling a 911 dispatcher that she had no idea how long the girl had been outside.

The mother left Wynter with her father for about two hours at the family's apartment and authorities said the man - who works a night shift - fell asleep.

The child's death is under investigation, and authorities on Monday had not said whether charges may be filed in the case.

Results from an autopsy are expected soon - the medical examiner's office however said she suffered from severe hypothermia.

Neighbors say they would occasionally hear people arguing outside of the apartment. "That happens much quicker for our little ones".

Lucas says the woman who lives in the apartment kept to herself and had two children, the 2-year-old girl and a boy. "It was a few times that I had to take both of her kids home", Lucas said.

She was surprised when police officers knocked on her door.

"I cried because I just don't understand how a two-year-old could be outside and you not know", she added.
