35 killed in Syria regime attacks

CIA sends PKK truckload of heavy weaponry amid Turkey’s Afrin

Strikes on several locations in the besieged area east of the capital also wounded more than 100 people, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The Observatory says 16 people were killed while the activist-run Ghouta Media Center put the toll at 17 dead.

It released a video showing its workers rushing to rescue victims from under the rubble.

The UN mission in Syria issued a statement in Damascus on Tuesday calling for a month-long truce.

- Afrin: Ongoing Turkish military operations and the reported blockage of exits by other forces have trapped many civilians preventing them from accessing safer areas.

Protestors have for always been demanding the resignation of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad over his autocratic rule.

Almost 200 people were wounded, and rescuers said many of those probably will not survive because of lack of medical supplies. Though Assad appears to have survived the insurgency, his forces continue to bomb and besiege opposition pockets around the country, including in Eastern Ghouta and Idlib.

She said OPCW experts are also looking into allegations of chemical weapons use in opposition areas and in government areas, and reports are due soon.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said the military operations in Afrin and Idlib would continue, and repeated Turkey's demand for USA forces to pull back from the town of Manbij where they are stationed alongside Kurdish-led forces.

Under a deal reached with Tehran and Moscow to try to reduce fighting between pro-government forces and mainly Islamist insurgents in northwestern Syria, Turkey has agreed to set up 12 observation posts in Idlib and neighbouring provinces.

More than 350 people - including 86 children and 68 women - have been killed in bombardments in Eastern Ghouta alone since December 29, SOHR says.

That deployment is separate from a Turkish military offensive that Ankara launched last month to rout US -backed Syrian Kurdish fighters from the northern enclave of Afrin.

Al-Qaida-linked militants said they downed the Russian Su-25 in the northern Idlib province on Saturday.

In May past year, Russia, Iran and Turkey signed an agreement to set up de-escalation centres, in order to reduce violence and airstrikes in some parts of Syria.

The plane was downed by a portable air defence missile in an incident which marked the first time a Russian jet was shot down over Syria since Russia launched its air campaign there in September 2015.

Also Tuesday, Iran's President Hassan Rouhani criticized Turkey's ongoing offensive against USA -backed Syrian Kurdish fighters in the Syrian enclave of Afrin, saying it doesn't serve the interests of any country in the region.

"We implore the global community to speak with one voice, taking every opportunity to publicly pressure the Assad regime, and its supporters, to cease its use of chemical weapons", spokeswoman Heather Nauert said in a statement Monday night.
