Trump tells Pentagon to plan military parade

The US President reportedly asked the Pentagon to prepare a display last month based on the Bastille Day parade he witnessed alongside French President Emmanuel Macron. "This is being worked at the highest levels of the military", the official added.

A White House official told the Washington Post that the parade is still in the "brainstorming" stage and that nothing had been finalized yet.

USA troops march during the annual Bastille Day military parade on the Concorde Square in Paris, France, on July 14, 2017.

The US has not traditionally embraced showy displays of raw military power, such as North Korea's parading of ballistic missiles as a claim of global prestige and influence. "I think we would show our confidence by remaining silent and not doing something like that".

The news comes just days after Trump accused Democrats who failed to applaud him during his State of the Union address as "treasonous" - remarks that the White House brushed off as "tongue-in-cheek" comments.

President Donald Trump wants a big military parade, and the Pentagon may be delivering one, the Washington Post reported Tuesday. Is a national military parade a good idea? "I don't know. We're going to have to try and top it".

Tarantino added: "Throwing the word "rape" around is like throwing the word "racist" around. To me, when you use the word rape, you're talking about violent, throwing them down.

Initial planning for the military parade requested by President Donald Trump is now underway, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford has confirmed.

Mr. Trump wants the parade to happen on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C., the Post reports, although no location has been set yet.

And it's not like American military parades are unprecedented, even if it would be rather expensive at a time of overspending and huge deficits.

After the Gulf War in 1991, the USA put on a victory celebration replete with service members and military gear. The parade featured tanks and other armored military vehicles and a flyover by jets that streaked the sky with red, white, and blue smoke.

The controversial move has, however, resulted in the president being accused by one political opponent of acting like a "dictator" and wasting an absurd amount of money. I think a lot of the world remembers the Soviet May Day parades and they still see the North Korean military parades around Pyongyang.
