Trump's comments on deadly crash 'ghoulish and inappropriate'

Edwin Jackson Indianapolis Colts Linebacker Killed By Drunk Driver

Manuel Orrego-Savala remained jailed Tuesday following a court appearance in Indianapolis.

Authorities say Orrego-Savala was deported from the U.S.in 2007 and 2009, and he was again living illegally in the USA, in Indianapolis.

Hours before the Super Bowl in Minnesota, tragedy struck the league when reports stated Indianapolis Colts LB Edwin Jackson had been killed on a highway and it was due to a drunk driver plowing into him and a shared-ride driver who also lost his life.

"According to court documents and jail information, Alex Cabrera Gonsales is the same person as Manuel Orrego-Savala, the man now in custody in Marion County for allegedly causing Sunday's crash", Meyer said, according to WBIC Indianapolis.

A probable cause affidavit filed Sunday in Marion Superior Court states that a breath test administered at the scene found Orrego-Savala's blood-alcohol content was 0.239 percent.

Trump's tweet - similar to those he wrote about Kate Steinle, a 32-year-old woman killed in 2015 by an undocumented immigrant on a San Francisco pier - made Sunday's accident national news, but it wasn't until U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced a request to ultimately take custody of Orrego-Savala that his connection to the Bay Area became known.

35 killed in Syria regime attacks
Almost 200 people were wounded, and rescuers said many of those probably will not survive because of lack of medical supplies. Protestors have for always been demanding the resignation of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad over his autocratic rule.

Outside the courtroom, defense attorney Jorge Torres said he had "serious concerns" about getting a fair trial in light of the negative attention on his client's immigration status. He notes that Orrego-Savala has been living in IN for several years and doing construction work in the Indianapolis area. Orrego-Savala is a citizen of Guatemala by birth, not Mexico as Marion County Jail records show. Orrego-Savala was intoxicated, according to police.

"We thank the City of Indianapolis for embracing Edwin and treating him as one of their own", their statement read.

Two years after he was deported, he returned to the United States illegally, and was deported again two months later in May 2009, with an order not to come back for 20 years, according to the complaint. He also has numerous other misdemeanor convictions and arrests in California and in, said U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman Nicole Alberico. Late Tuesday, he was charged by federal prosecutors with illegal re-entry of a previously deported alien.

Over the next year, Wagstaffe said, Orrego-Savala was convicted of misdemeanor drug possession and two felony drug possession charges. They say he was walking away when they caught him. Indianapolis television station WRTV reported that Orrego-Savala told the judge through an interpreter: "I wasn't driving the vehicle. I don't know why I am here".

He was briefly in court on Tuesday for an "advisement of rights" appearance ahead of his initial hearing, which will be held on Wednesday in Marion County Circuit Court. Jackson and Monroe were standing outside the driver's vehicle before being hit by a pickup truck, according to police.
