Watson revitalised after 10th PGA Tour win

Bubba Watson won the Genesis Open in Pacific Palisades, California, on Sunday, shooting a two-under 69 in his final round to finish 12 under for the tournament.

Bubba won by two shots over Kevin Na and Tony Finau, and more tears on the 18th green.

Instead, he joins Ben Hogan and Lloyd Mangrum as three-time winners at Riviera.

Bubba Watson acknowledged he had thoughts of retirement past year after a form slump but they were put on hold after his two-stroke victory at the Genesis Open in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Meanwhile, a fitting tribute is being paid to Barrie Douglas, a popular figure in Scottish amateur golf who passed away past year.

With the win Watson has moved to 41st on the Official World Golf Ranking and has earned a place in the WGC-Mexico Championship.

He also plummeted from world No.4 to 117th and discussed retirement "10 to 12 times" with wife Angie.

Tied for 42nd in the Genesis Open overnight after a disappointing, two-over 73 on Saturday, the four-time major victor birdied his last two holes to close with a three-under 68 and a likely top 25 finish on three-under par.

"You never know if you're going to play good again", Watson said as his voice choked. You never know if you're going to play good again, never know if you're going to lift a trophy again.

"It went real fast where I went from losing to winning", he said. I just got my 10th win. Sunday was his 10th career victory. "So when I saw him, all I saw was this is my moment to get hurt".

"It means a lot as my goal was always to get to ten wins", added Bubba. Head case. Hooking the ball. Somehow we're here making fun of it.

About the retiring thing, Watson said, "I was close, my wife was not close".

Watson admitted that he was close to giving up on golf as he battled with health issues and a loss of form over the past two years, but he made a decision to continue on his quest to reach his goal of 10 PGA Tour titles. "She's a lot tougher than I am".

After finding the greenside bunker at the par-3 14th, Watson asked for the location of the nearest bathroom.

Watson got up-and-down from the bunker to birdie the par-5 11th, keeping him within a stroke of the lead. It, too, allowed him to relieve himself in a nearby portable toilet. Watson finished the week on a four-round score of 12-under-par.

"It might have been like this like the whole Tiger-mania. but I swear, playing in front of all that, he gives up half a shot a day on the field", said McIlroy.

"When you don't have the strength to hit the shots you want, it changes everything".

"All I thought about was the bad golfers in the world when they stand on the tee and they see water to the right".
