Billy Graham Passes Away At 99

Billy Graham’s ‘invincible innocence

The American evangelist Billy Graham, one of the most important religious figures of the past century, has died aged 99.

"This lets people come to the birthplace of Billy Graham", he said. "There was nobody like him!"

"Christianity is not a white man's religion and don't let anyone tell you it's white or black", he told an audience in South Africa in 1973.

"As a family, we are just so very grateful that he is still with us", Franklin Graham said in November. It was the younger Graham who convinced his father, the Gospel Coalition reports, that Cash could help "attract millions of people. especially young people" to Graham's messages and mission.

Born in 1918 on a western North Carolina dairy farm, Graham came of age in a time of rigid social stratification. He then transferred to the Florida Bible Institute.

Famous world Evangelist Billy Graham has passed on after a long period of illness.

"A lot of the Jews are great friends of mine", said Graham, according to the New York Times. He was a counselor for presidents dating back to Dwight Eisenhower.

His message and service to U.S. presidents from Dwight Eisenhower to George W Bush earned him the nickname "America's Pastor".

The world's best-known evangelist, the Rev. Billy Graham, has died.

The "Billy Graham" rule would later be followed by other religious leaders and business executives, including reportedly by Vice President Mike Pence, who told The Hill in 2002 that he did not meet alone with women, according to a 2017 Washington Post profile of his wife Karen Pence. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, and survived by their five children.

"One of the things that's most remarkable about Billy Graham is, in a way, his ordinariness", said Wheaton College President Dr. Philip Ryken.

In 1943 he graduated from Wheaton College in IL and married fellow student Ruth McCue Bell, the daughter of a missionary surgeon who spent the first 17 years of her life in China. In 2007, Ruth Graham was buried in one of the caskets commissioned by her son from Angola, the governor's officer said. He presided over graveside services for Johnson's in 1973 and spoke at Richard Nixon's funeral in 1994. He was the author of 31 books, most of which have been translated into several languages.

"Billy Graham was a remarkably humble man, instantly recognizable around the world but fully aware that his success was not his own", Pittenger said in a statement.

"My greatest comfort comes from knowing that I belong to Christ, and that no matter what happens, he will never leave me or forsake me". "Almost every occasion I have been with her has been in a warm, informal setting, such as a luncheon or dinner, either alone or with a few family members or other close friends". It is the meeting he has been looking forward to for the whole of his life'.

Graham had his detractors: noted Christian theologian Reinhold Niebuhr challenged his preaching as far too simple and not reflecting the complexity of human existence.

But he added: "There is no feigning in him: he believes what he believes with an invincible innocence".

Graham was a tall, powerful figure, like a great National Football League quarterback. Through a newspaper column, he answered thousands of questions about spirituality. "The police were also in the rooms around me because they were afraid we would get shot".

Graham dealt with a number of illnesses in his last years, including prostate cancer, hydrocephalus (a buildup of fluid in the brain) and symptoms of Parkinson's disease.
