Shopian Killings: Restrictions in Srinagar parts tomorrow, Train service suspended

A militant and three civilians were killed in Army's retaliatory fire after a mobile check-post came under attack in Jammu and Kashmir's southern Shopian district late Sunday evening.

However, the Army alleged that they were over-ground workers of a militant outfit and were accompanying Dar.

The spokesman said that police has reached the spot and started legal formalities. "In retaliatory operation, one militant identified as Shahid Ahmad Dar was killed", Army Spokesperson said.

Defence spokesman said in summer capital Srinagar: "A joint Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) was sacked upon by terrorists near Pahnoo village in Shopian district of south Kashmir at 8 pm today (Sunday)".

He said three Over Ground Worker (OWGs) travelling in the vehicle with militant were found dead. The incident took place at 8 pm.

After the killing of four persons including a militant, clashes erupted in the area with youth taking to roads and pelting stones on the security personnel.

Sources have identified the three civilians as Suhail Khalil Wagay of Pinjoora, Shopian, Mohammad Shahid Khan of Malikgund and Shahnawaz Ahmad Wagay of Trenz, Shopian.

Police sources told Kashmir Reader that militants attacked the Mobile Vehicle Check Post of the Army near the 44 RR camp in Pahnoo area. The family of the Army Major approached the Supreme court against the police FIR.
