Nashville mayor expected to resign

House Speaker Paul Ryan’s office said “The new tax reform law has boosted the economy and we certainly don’t want to jeopardize those gains.”

Nashville Mayor Megan Barry is expected to announce her resignation at a press conference Tuesday morning.

Barry moved to Nashville in 1991 to attend graduate school at Vanderbilt University, where she earned an MBA in 1993.

While many in Nashville were willing to reserve judgment on the affair itself, questions mounted about whether Ms. Barry improperly took taxpayer-funded trips with Mr. Forrest and whether she gave his daughter preferential treatment when she sought a city job. So both pleaded guilty to felony theft charges and will undergo three years of probation and restitution of the illegal reimbursements and overtime pay. She would not say when the affair ended, only saying that it's over.

Barry, 54, had previously worked for telecommunications company Nortel Networks as well as Premier, Inc., a healthcare improvement company.

"It has been my honor and it has been the privilege of my entire professional life to have the blessing and the opportunity to be your mayor", Barry told reporters following Tuesday's court appearance, concluding, "I love you Nashville".

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigations also found a nude photo and a partially nude photo of a woman that appeared to be taken on Forrest's phone. Barry travelled alone with Forrest on nine of the trips, including one to Greece in September, according to the newspaper.

Barry's admission followed the loss of the Barrys' only child, Max, in July after an overdose on a combination of drugs, including opioids.

Barry has been under growing pressure to resign in the wake of the affair and numerous investigations.

The odds of buying a $1 million ticket are one in 12 million, which means that chances of winning the jackpot are lower. Nevertheless, there are states which tend to go a little overboard with their love of lotteries more than other states.

Nashville Mayor Megan Barry has begun calling close advisers to inform them of her decision, the Tennessean reported, citing multiple sources.

Barry has denied violating state law and policy and has vowed to reimburse the money stolen to the city.

"No one Is as excited about this city and its bright and limitless future as I am", Barry said.

Barry promptly resigned as mayor but for now, Barry is still on Facebook and Twitter as Nashville Mayor and posted a link to a personal statement to the residents of Nashville.

The revelation of the affair derailed the first term of a mayor who was seen a rising star among Democrats.

He was also sentenced to three years of probation. At the time, Barry said she would not be resigning.

A month after she admitted to an extramarital affair with her then-bodyguard, Nashville Mayor Megan Barry has pleaded guilty to theft of property.

Nashville will have a special mayoral election in August.
