Storm to bring 1-3 inches of snow

Storm to bring 1-3 inches of snow

Generally 12 to 18 inches of snow is expected in the southern Poconos and northwest New Jersey, with 8 to 12 inches in most of southeast Pennsylvania and central New Jersey. "We're looking at a mix of rain and wet snow for tonight-a slushy coating to an inch by daybreak, and roads could become slippery". With the wet and heavy snow, drifting should not be much of an issue.

"Plan on hard travel conditions, including during the evening commute on Wednesday", Upton-based NWS forecasters said in a statement.

Many schools said they'd determine whether there would be classes Thursday on Wednesday night. County OEM officials spoke with members of the JCP&L team earlier this morning, and it does not appear that we will see a total resolution prior to the arrival of this next storm. Wednesday afternoon and evening will be messy, so expect hard travel conditions, potential power outages and wind damage along with some flooding (prone basements, stream/rivers, streets, etc) from this nor'easter.

Fortunately, though the storm will bring plenty of rain, snow and wind, it's not predicted to be as potent as the "bomb cyclone" that battered the region last week.

The expected snowfall for the Philadelphia region for Wednesday's storm as of Tuesday afternoon. County Executive George Latimer said thousands of residents "are still sleeping in cold homes with no lights and downed power lines right outside their doors". Highs again in the 30s to low 40s.

The snow will be heavy at times, especially from midday Wednesday through Wednesday evening, where rates will be 1 to 2 inches per hour. The wind may not be as intense this time around, but for most of us outside the Poconos, the snow with this week's storm will be heavier. This storm is moving faster than the previous one, and the astronomical tides aren't as high.

That's why forecasters are confident that the Catskills and Hudson Valley will get 8 inches to a foot, but are less confident about how much falls west of there into Central New York.

The National Weather Service expects the snow to gradually diminish, but winds are expected to remain strong. A winter storm warning will be in effect for only northern Nassau County, while the rest of the Island is under a winter weather advisory.

The second weekend of March looks nice with cool sunshine on Saturday and then some increasing clouds on Sunday.

Still being 24 hours from arrival, we'll continue to watch the latest computer model guidance carefully and will update the forecast with any changes.
