More Sunshine for the Sunshine State? Florida Wants Year-Round Daylight Saving Time

Florida Senate OKs bill for year-round Daylight Saving Time

One year following Willett's advocating and lobbying for daylight saving time, Sir Robert Pearce introduced a bill in the House of Commons to make it mandatory to adjust the clocks.

But it's not, according to Prerau, whose 2009 book "Seize the Daylight" traces the history of the time shift.

Like this Sunday, when they and most other Americans will set their clocks ahead one hour when DST begins.

The idea of losing an hour of sleep this weekend has ZERO appeal to me.

Sunday, Northeast Ohioans will lose an hour of sleep as we spring the clocks an hour forward.

It's really not a real thing. But it only lasted a few years and between 1945 and 1966, there was no law regarding it so states and municipalities could choose whether or not to observe Daylight Saving.

Benjamin Franklin first thought up the idea of daylight saving in 1784.

In the United States, daylight saving time began on March 21, 1918.

Germany was the first country to enact daylight saving time during World War I. The United Kingdom soon followed suit and introduced "summer time".

For most Arizonans, it means we'll be on the same time as states west of us, three hours behind the East Coast.

War time, or daylight-saving time, was reinstated in World War II.

Hawaii and most of Arizona don't take part in DST.

Two states that don't observe daylight saving time are Arizona and Hawaii.

Efforts to kill off daylight saving time are almost as old as the time shift itself, and even today, some are trying to get it repealed.

Enough with the "fall back, spring ahead". The state's governor, Rick Scott, 65, hasn't indicated if he'll sign the bill or not.

The clock-moving has also been shown to correlate with negative health effects, as strokes and heart attacks increase in the days following the clock change.

For adults, this might seem easy to do as it's something we've been doing since the Daylight saving time bill was proposed by congress in 1917. The DOT also says that DST is observed for reasons including saving energy, preventing traffic injuries and reducing crime.
