ITunes will stop taking LP submissions, ending multimedia album format ars_ab.settitle(1270855)

Launched on iTunes in 2009, LPs (long plays) were a way for users to buy albums with additional elements such as bonus tracks and videos.

According to a report from Metro, Apple sent a letter to music producers saying that, "Apple will no longer accept new submissions of iTunes LPs after March 2018".

United Kingdom publication Metro first broke the news, claiming to have leaked an internal email from Apple titled "The End of iTunes LP", which was apparently sent to music producers.

An attempt to download a previously purchased iTunes LP through the iTunes Store today yielded only audio tracks, minus the iTunes LP multimedia content.

The LP format never achieved great popularity but the fact that Apple plans to ditch iTunes LPs in 2018 potentially hints at the possibility that Apple may stop selling iTunes music downloads shortly.

The orthodontist said his patient snapped the wire on her retainer after watching Jordan take off his shirt. Sophia told Teen Vogue that she thought the Tumblr post made by her orthodontist was "hilarious".

iTunes LPs offer endless opportunities to create an interactive, multimedia experience for albums in iTunes.

Citing the rise of the firm's Apple Music streaming service, music industry insiders claim the move could lead to the demise of iTunes. It's hard to imagine iTunes LPs being the reason why people buy albums in full, so that's probably not the case. Labels could take advantage of the format by included things like liner notes, graphics, photos and links to video for albums encoded that way. An iTunes Store link to "See All Albums with iTunes LP" doesn't appear to work when tapped within the store, but it can be accessed by clicking above.

A leaked memo says Apple is phasing out iTunes LP, and that's being interpreted as "Apple isn't going to sell song downloads on iTunes anymore".

A leaked email from the Apple Music Team to music industry partners may hint that iTunes on the way out. Spotify is now reigning in the streaming landscape, with twice as many subscribers as Apple Music, but Apple is expected to eclipse those numbers by this summer.
