Turkey urges U.S. to stop deploying Kurds in Syrian Afrin

Over 3,000 terrorists 'neutralized' in Afrin operation

Turkey sees the YPG as a terror group for its ties to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which is listed as a terror group by Turkey, the US and the European Union.

Turkey's state-run Anadolu news agency reported the capture of Jandairis on Thursday, saying members of the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) were pushed out of the city center following intense clashes. Afrin's center is surrounded. "We can enter Afrin at any moment, God willing", Erdogan told his ruling party in Ankara, a day after Turkish forces took control of the town of Jandairis west of Afrin.

On Jan. 20, the Turkish Armed Forces, together with the Free Syrian Army, launched the Operation Olive Branch in Afrin, Syria. "Today we are in Afrin and tomorrow we will be in Manbij".

The talks between Turkish and American officials have begun in the USA capital, Washington where they are expected to discuss a number of matters of bilateral interest, Syria and Turkey's ongoing Operation Olive Branch, in Afrin, among them.

Erdogan's repeated threats to push on to Manbij have caused complications with North Atlantic Treaty Organisation ally the United States, which has its troops deployed in the area.

According to him, deployment of YPG militants to north-western Syria is being held under control of the USA military in the region. Washington has backed the group in the fight against ISIS.

Turkey is now engaged in a cross-border offensive in Syria to drive out Kurdish fighters it considers to be an extension of the PKK.

The Turkish General Staff said the terrorists had fled the YPG/PKK's shelters in northern Iraq and surrendered to security forces in Silopi district of Turkey's southeastern Sirnak province.
