Gunfight rages in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama

BJP leader escapes militant attack unhurt in Jammu-Kashmir

According to Kashmir Media Service, people staged forceful demonstrations in Pulwama town, Tral, Nawdal, Awantipora, Aghanzipora and other areas of Pulwama district against the killing of the youth.

The encounter ensued after militants made an abortive bid to snatch a rifle of the personal guard of BJP leader Mohammad Anwar Khan near Arsh medical institute in Balhama, Khanmoh.

In the meantime, the suspected militants fled away from the spot, the officer said adding that one of the policemen sustained bullet wounds in the incident. The doctors looking after the injured jawan said that the CRPF jawan was stable.

The gunfight ensued during the search operation.

A statement issued by the police here said that the militants had attacked the security men guarding the BJP activist while he was visiting Arsh Institute at Khonmoh.

Work was also affected in government offices and banks besides educational institutions as second militant killed in the encounter was identified as Shabir Dar, a resident of of Awantipora.

Meanwhile, the police on Thursday claimed that it with the Army raided a place in central district of Budgam and arrested three persons who were in possession of three pistols with magazines and two rounds of ammunition.
