Trump Calls Those Behind Texas Package Bombs 'Sick People'

Police in Austin Texas are investigating a series of deadly bombings in recent weeksMore

The explosion happened at a facility in Schertz, Tex., just northeast of San Antonio sometime around 1 a.m., said FBI Special Agent Michelle Lee.

The department says in a statement that police Chief William McManus misspoke at a news conference Tuesday and that there was only one package bomb at the Schertz facility - the one that exploded.

Austin Police Officers are investigating a suspicious package at the FedEx building near the Austin Bergstrom International Airport.

"We've been scanning for an unknown package and stuff like that already so now I think we'll be even more anxious about wires", she told the Guardian.

Today's bombing may be a chilling sign for investigators, for this is the second detonation in a row that does not conform with the first three explosions.

The Brodie Lane location is in Sunset Valley, southwest of downtown Austin.

Here's what we know - and don't know - about the series of Austin bombings that have only escalated fear among a city of almost 1 million people.

Since early March, the five bombings have killed a total of two people and injured another five.

The FBI is examining whether a package explosion at a FedEx facility outside of San Antonio is connected to the series of bombs that have rocked Austin, Texas, CNN reports.

More than 350 special agents assigned by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, as well as ATF agents and forensic investigators in Quantico, Virginia, are on the case.

"The game went up a little bit - well, it went up a lot yesterday with the tripwire", Christopher Combs, FBI agent in charge of the bureau's San Antonio division, said in an interview. On March 12, a 17-year-old boy was killed and a woman was injured by another package bomb.

An army of federal agents is on the ground in Austin, Texas, where two men were injured when a bomb exploded Sunday night.

"Successful serial murderers are determined, adaptable and cognisant of their surroundings, which allows them to learn from their mistakes, improve their abilities and implement new tactics to remain steps ahead of those searching for them", said Enzo Yaksic, co-director of Northeastern University's Atypical Homicide Research Group.

The person was treated and released, according to the Schertz Police Department.

Earlier Tuesday, a package exploded in the middle of the night at a FedEx shipping centre in Schertz.

During a briefing Monday, Austin's police chief urged the bomber to contact authorities and tell them the reason behind the bombings.

It is more than possible that the explosion is linked to the prior ones that took place in Austin, as the package was believed to be headed toward that city, which has witnessed four bombings this month, the officials added. "We are not providing any additional specific information about this package at this time".

The package was reportedly shipped from a FedEx store in Austin. If this explosion can be linked back to the bombings in Austin, then this would mark the fifth such explosion in March alone.

"We now need the community to have an extra level of vigilance and pay attention to any suspicious device - whether it be a package or a bag, a backpack - anything that looks out of place", Austin's police chief said Monday.
