According to TIME Magazine, "Snapchat stocks dropped by almost 5% on Thursday after Rihanna called out Snapchat for running an ad that made light of domestic violence by referencing the 2009 incident when the singer's then-boyfriend Chris Brown violently physically assaulted her".

On Twitter, Teigen explained she's chose to quit the app thanks to the controversial redesign, the fact that her fans say they can no longer find her updates, and because of the tone-deaf ad that used Rihanna to mock domestic violence.

What do Chrissy Teigen, Chelsea Clinton, and Kylie Jenner have in common? "The update, the constant complaints of people not being able to find me, plus the Rihanna poll.no bueno (sic)" Teigen wrote on Twitter.

I stopped using snap. Rihanna started out by saying that Snapchat already wasn't her favorite app, but that this situation decreased her respect for it even more. "But I'm just trying to figure out what the point was with this mess", the singer wrote.

Besides Teigen and other popular users leaving the site, shares could also have slipped because of an investigation into Facebook privacy standards, which is making social media investors fear more government regulation of social media sites.

In a calculated move, the pop star utilized Instagram's story feature, which is a direct rival of Snapchat, to post her scathing response to the whole situation.

"This isn't about my personal feelings. but all the women, children and men that have been victims of DV in the past and especially the ones who haven't made it out yet".

Snapchat had previously issued a statement apologizing for the controversial ad, which was pulled after it made its rounds on the internet. "We are sorry that this happened".

After Rihanna deleted Snapchat, the company's stock fell 4 percent just hours after she announced it and when Kylie Jenner complained about the new redesign in February, the stock fell a whopping 8 percent. The stock lost close to $1 billion in market value as a result.
