Ford vending machine begins dispensing cars in China

If they are not totally satisfied, consumers can simply take out another auto and can test-drive two vehicles provided they are different models. "In the meantime, we are opening our auto vending machine's infrastructure to the entire industry to leverage and enable their distributors, in hopes of helping upgrade the automotive sector as a whole".

In December past year, Alibaba and Ford signed a deal to form a partnership to work together on new technological opportunities. Alibaba Group partnered with Ford Motor to launch this "Super Test-Drive Center" in China to rev up the car-shopping experience for consumers. On arriving at the vending centre, a verification of the identity with the customer's selfie will enable the automated system to deliver the auto at the ground floor, from where the test drive would commence.

The e-commerce giant is no stranger to selling cars online and via mobile apps. But Alibaba Super Members, or customers with a Zhima Credit score over 700, get their rides for free. They then take a selfie with the app, which is used to confirm their booking at the test-drive centre. The Super Test Drive Center, located in the city of Guangzhou, was announced in late 2017 and was created to make buying a vehicle a fun experience.

For customers of the vehicle vending machine, nearly the entire car-buying process happens on their smartphones, through Alibaba's e-commerce apps.

Once booked, customers take a selfie so that facial recognition technology can identify them on arrival at the auto vending machine. The five-floor high, unstaffed auto vending machine is located in the southern city of Guangzhou.

Buying a Ford vehicle in China is about to get incredibly futuristic.

. Last year, Autobahn Motors opened a 15 story vehicle vending machine. It is part of a partnership between the vehicle company and Tmall, owned by Alibaba Group.

Cao Zhenyu, a senior executive at Changan Ford Automobile, a Ford joint venture headquartered in Chongqing, said traditional test drives offered by dealerships are often limited by time, space and available routes.
