Migrant Caravan Stopped Well Before Trump's Promise to Militarize US Border

President Donald Trump speaks during a meeting with Baltic leaders in the Cabinet Room of the White House Tuesday

President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he would use USA military forces to protect the border with Mexico until a long-promised wall is completed and "proper security" is in place. The pause came after President Donald Trump's continued blasting of Mexico over alleged inaction in stopping the migrants and other immigrants from illegally crossing over into the U.S.

He's calling it a "big step".

He's been complaining that US borders are too porous and its immigration laws are too weak. "Pretty much everybody agrees to that, except very stupid people".

Trump's call for troops at the border comes as he continues to press Congress to approve $25 billion in funding for the "big, beautiful" southern border wall he promised on the campaign trail.

"Until we can have a wall and proper security we're going to be guarding our border with the military", Trump said.

State lawmakers committed a year ago to carry on spending, despite Trump's election, the decrease in unauthorised border crossings and the reality that many migrants surrender to USA officials as soon as possible in order to seek asylum.

Though Congress remains in recess this week, some lawmakers were quick to question the president's military plan.

Facebook Sued Over Call and SMS Data Collection
This helps you find and stay connected with the people you care about, and provides you with a better experience across Facebook. However, their response to inquiry does not justify the reason behind data collection of texts and calls for years.

Republican Representative Francis Rooney, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said there was a risk of increased violence. "We have awful, disgusting and very unsafe laws in the United States, and we're going to be able to do something about that, hopefully soon", Trump said. There are now some 2,000 USA forces in Syria fighting against the Islamic State, which has seen its presence diminish in the area.

Many migrant advocate groups argue that given the scale of the armed law enforcement presence, the extensive surveillance infrastructure, fencing, and numerous checkpoints, the border is, in effect, already militarised. "I want to start rebuilding our nation".

"If it reaches our border, our laws are so weak and so pathetic-you (the Baltic leaders) would not understand this 'cause I know your laws are strong at the border-it's like we have no border", he explained.

Meanwhile, several blocks away from the White House, two of the president's top military advisers speaking at a national security conference, said the mission in Syria was far from over.

"We are scared, just like you", Mujica said according to The Washington Post. "That is our mission and our mission isn't over and we are going to complete that mission".

"I think we should put that new law to a vote in the Senate as soon as possible", he said on Twitter.
