Facebook wanted to fix its privacy woes-but it broke Tinder instead

Above Tinder In the loop

In a statement provided to The Verge, Facebook said, "This was part of the changes that we announced today, and we are working with Tinder to address this issue".

But wait, you say - how could Facebook possibly affect my Tinder account? Interestingly enough, this error happened at the same time when Facebook made a decision to impose restrictions on third party data usage.

Tinder users who want to continue talking to their previous matches should access the dating app via their website.

The social media giant changed the rules that govern the data exchanges with third-party apps like Tinder. Users on Twitter, as well as several people in WIRED's offices, have reported issues logging into the app, instead finding themselves in a never-ending loop between Facebook and Tinder: If you try to log into Tinder with your Facebook account, the app asks you to provide Facebook more permissions. That said, since users need their Facebook account in order to log into Tinder, this bug is expected to have affected Tinder's entire user base.

This post has been updated to note that you can log into Tinder with a phone number, and not just a Facebook profile as previously stated.

"This information is used to create fuller profiles, verify authenticity and provide support", the pop-up reads. "We apologize for the inconvenience and are working to have everyone swiping again soon", the dating app told the Verge Wednesday afternoon. The social network inadvertently locked out the dating app's users when the former changed its privacy and API settings. Well, you can of course loop it.

Facebook is still reeling in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica scandal, revealing to RTÉ that 44,000 Irish users may have had information shared with the data analytics company after it emerged that the personal information of as many as 87 million users worldwide may have been accessed. "Bravo to Facebook for being considerate of their only valuable product".

Tinder is also said to add a "female first" option, that would allow the ladies to take a call whether to strike a conversation or not.
