Israel fully supports US-led airstrikes on Syria: Netanyahu

Israel: Iran drone intercepted in Feb was Strike Assignment

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the US for the joint missile strikes it carried out with the United Kingdom and France that targeted three chemical weapons facilities in Syria.

About 4,000 migrants have left Israel for Rwanda and Uganda since 2013 under a voluntary program, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has come under pressure from his right-wing voter base to expel thousands more.

He added Israel fully supports President Trump's stance on the issue, and applauded the president for his resolve.

U.S., British and French forces hit Syria with air strikes overnight in response to an alleged poison gas attack that killed dozens of people last week.

Netanyahu said he told May that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad "must understand that when he allows Iran and its proxies to establish a military presence in his country, he endangers Syria as well as the stability of the region".

A USA embassy spokeswoman confirmed to Reuters that Israel had been notified before the strikes, but she provided no further details.

Netanyahu called on Western powers to take the same approach towards preventing "terrorist states" from acquiring nuclear weapons, a thinly veiled reference to its rival enemy Iran.

The premier said he spoke with May on Saturday night following the joint strikes, which targeted three alleged chemical weapons facilities in Syria.

"We are determined and will continue to act against the Iranian establishment of bases (in Syria)", Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan, a member of the security cabinet, said on Israel's Army Radio. Iran is the key backer alongside Russian Federation of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, providing military advisors and "volunteer" ground forces.

Also Friday, Musa Ecweru, Uganda's minister for relief, disaster preparedness and refugees, acknowledged that his country was "positively considering" a request by Israel to accept 500 African asylum seekers.

Netanyahu said Israel would not allow Iran to establish itself in Syria, according to his office.
