McArthur charged with eighth count of first-degree murder

Toronto police to provide update on Bruce McArthur investigation Monday

Toronto police detective Hank Idsinga said on Monday that Kanagaratnam's direct family, who live in Sri Lanka, were informed over the weekend of his death.

Idsinga said Kanagaratnam's remains were found at a home McArthur used as storage for his landscaping business.

He went on to say the victim was from Sri Lanka and may have been visiting extended family in Canada.

He added that the photos police released in March and earlier in April helped them identify this victim.

McArthur, Idsinga believes, killed Kanagaratnam between Sept 3, 2015 and December 14, 2015 - less than a month after another alleged victim, Soroush Mahmudi, was reported missing by his family.

Police said they received hundreds of tips, and announced late last week they had made a successful identification. After receiving assistance from an unnamed global government agency, Idsinga said police were able to identify the victim.

"This doesn't quite fit the profile we have seen before...we don't know how he had contact with Bruce McArthur".

Selim Esen, 44, Abdulbasir Faizi, 44, Majeed Kayhan, 58, Andrew Kinsman, 49, Dean Lisowick, 47, Soroush Mahmudi, 50, and Skandaraj Navaratnam, 40.

Bruce McArthur has officially been charged with 8 murders now.

The remains of all the victims identified so far were found in planters located on the property of one of McArthur's clients.

Bruce McArthur was originally arrested on January 18th. He would have been 37 years old at the time of his death. The photo, which seems to be of a deceased man, was found on McArthur's computer during the police investigation. Police have said he was never reported missing and unlike McArthur's other alleged victims, Kanagaratnam had no clear ties to the LGBTQ community.

The sprawling police investigation, which Idsinga has previously described as unprecedented in size and scope, is now also scrutinizing 15 unsolved homicides that took place between 1975 and 1997.

Idsinga said Kanagaratnam, who was identified with the help of an unnamed global agency, was allegedly killed between September and December 2015.
