Fla. deputies killed while while eating at a restaurant

Two deputies in Trenton Florida were killed in the line of duty on Thursday

The Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office said a man walked up to the window and shot them. The suspect - John Hubert Highnote, 59, was also found dead outside, according to the Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office.

Furthermore, Sheriff Schultz said that Ramirez and Lindsey were the "best of the best" and called Highnote a "coward". "They were unable to return fire", the statement said.

Sgt. Ramirez was a seven-year veteran of the department, a husband and father; Deputy Lindsay was a new officer and had a girlfriend.

A Media Staging Area has been established in front of Duke Energy (not related to the incident) at 1532 East Wade Street in Trenton, Florida.

Bill Crace, a mechanic who has spent 27 years repairing engines in Bell, echoed Barnette. "I'm just going to keep working", Rhodenizer said. "Whatever those facts determine, we will never find a reason for what happened to Noel and Taylor, period". During that time, he had a handful of encounters with police, mostly involving traffic infractions.

Records show he was arrested by the Pinellas Park Police Department in 1978 on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon.

The tragedy took place at the Ace China Restaurant around 3 p.m.

Businesses owners around Gilchrist County had put out signs showing support for the Sheriff's Office.

Jamie Mauldin, a waitress at Akins Bar-B-Q said the town is devastated by the loss of the two deputies.

TRENTON, Fla. (WCTV) - Two Gilchrist County deputies have been shot and killed in an apparent ambush, our sister station WCJB confirms.

"What do you expect happens when you demonize law enforcement to the extent that it's been demonized?"

Schultz said state law enforcement officials are investigating. "Every type of hate, every type of putdown that you can think of".

"The only thing these men were guilty of", Shultz added, "is wanting to protect you and me, they just wanted to go get something to eat, and they just wanted to do their job". The number of officers killed by firearms has increased to 23 such deaths from 13 at the same point, the fund's preliminary data showed, while deaths caused by traffic crashes and other causes fell from previous year.

"Both our heroes had simply sat down to eat while on duty", Gilchrist County Sheriff Bobby Schultz said. He said both were excited about participating in the First Responder Olympics.
