Monsieur Arsene Wenger: Time To Say Goodbye

Arsene Wenger split from his wife Annie Brosterhous after telling how his obsession with football was'damaging his family life because he was always thinking about the next game

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger announced on Friday that he will step down from his role at the Premier League club at the end of the season after nearly 22 years at the helm.

The 68-year-old arrived at Arsenal in 1996 a relative unknown but leaves widely hailed as the greatest manager in the club's history following three Premier League titles and a record-breaking seven FA Cup triumphs.

Moyes was the man chosen to take over from Alex Ferguson at Manchester United following his fellow Scottish manager's 26 trophy-laden years at Old Trafford. In the 1998 and 2002 seasons respectively, Arsenal won League and FA Cup Double.

Wenger announced Friday he'll step down as Arsenal manager after this season.

The 68-year-old Frenchman will leave at the end of the season after almost 22 years at the club, 12 months before his latest contract was due to expire.

"What he gave to Arsenal even in the period without Premier Leagues, all the transition of the club from (Highbury) stadium to (Emirates) stadium, everything he did". When it eventually came, many of them understandably sighed a heave of great relief. Now sixth in the 20-team Premier League, Arsenal is 14 points off fourth placed bitter North London rival, Tottenham Hotspur.

"It's a bitter-sweet moment, even for people like me who've been demanding it happen for almost a decade", he wrote. "Once you announce you are leaving people are going to talk about your legacy and his legacy is untouchable".

"At the end of the season, we have to make sure we're a Premier League team and we won't have any discussions before then". It's unthinkable to me that we'll have another manager who will have a 22-year tenure.

Seaman, who played for Arsenal from 1990 to 2003, is considered by many to be the club's greatest-ever goalkeeper and was a key part of Wenger's early title-winning teams.

After 22 years at the helm, 68-year-old Wenger left the football world in shock after announcing he will step down later this year, after many hard seasons in charge.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte can not see another manager matching Arsene Wenger's 22-year Arsenal tenure in the years to come. He would bring the ruthlessness some Arsenal fans crave, but others might not like his more pragmatic style of football.

The England global, who can operate as a forward or as a winger, has taken to Twitter to give his reaction to Wenger's decision to leave Arsenal in the summer of 2018.

Le Saux told Betfair: "When it comes to who will take over, Arsenal have time to build a profile of who they want".

A revolution followed. Out went unfocused training techniques and the binge drinking that bedevilled English clubs and ruined careers, and in came salads, fitness and coaching that emphasised pace and movement.
