Pitcher Danny Farquhar in Critical Condition After Brain Hemorrhage During Game

The Houston Astros' Marwin Gonzalez scores on a double by George Springer as White Sox catcher Omar Narvaez looks at ball during the fourth inning Friday

"He's alive, he's got a chance and that's what I'm hanging on to", said White Sox pitching coach Don Cooper. He has use of his extremities and is responding to questions and commands, according to the team.

White Sox medical personnel clustered around him and then carried him to the clubhouse, and a waiting ambulance brought him to a hospital, where he is now in what a team official calls the fight of his life. He's now listed as being in critical but stable condition, and reports indicate that more information isn't being released at the request of Farquhar's family.

Farquhar passed out in the sixth inning Friday night after getting two outs against Houston.

"We made sure they knew that he's still in critical condition but stable and that the best thing for us to do would be to give them space", manager Rick Renteria told reporters before the game.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that Farquhar is expected to remain in the hospital for at least the next three weeks. On Saturday, the White Sox said the 31-year-old suffered a brain hemorrhage. "Right now he's being treated, and hopefully it's all going to be good".

Farquhar was rushed to the hospital after collapsing in the middle of a game, where it was discovered he had had a ruptured aneurysm that caused a hemorrhage. In his 253 relief appearances at the major league level, Farquhar is 10-15 with an ERA of 3.93.

Fellow White Sox relievers hung up Farquhar's jersey in the bullpen during Saturday and Sunday's game.

Farquhar was transferred to the 60-day disabled list before Monday night's game against Seattle.

The White Sox said anyone interested in passing along any messages or letters of support to Farquhar should address mail to him at Guaranteed Rate Field.
