Michael Cohen to plead Fifth in Stormy Daniels lawsuit

Trump Lawyer Told to Be Set for Fast Review of Cohen Records

In it, Cohen noted the April 9 Federal Bureau of Investigation raid on his home, office and hotel room, during which he said the agency seized "various electronic devices and documents in my possession, which contain information relating to the $130,000 payment to Plaintiff Stephanie Clifford at the center of this case, and my communications with counsel, Brent Blakely, relating to this action".

Michael Cohen will be invoking his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination in Stormy Daniels' lawsuit against him and President Donald Trump, he told the federal court hearing the case Wednesday.

The FBI search was partly a referral by the Office of Special Counsel, Robert Mueller, who is investigating alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign.

Cohen stated that the feds seized "various electronic devices and documents in my possession" that have info about the $130,000 Daniels was paid as part of a confidentiality agreement that prevents her discussing an alleged relationship she had with Trump in 2006. The payment was made in 2016, prior to the U.S. presidential election, as part of a nondisclosure agreement surrounding an alleged affair between Clifford and Trump.

Cohen's $130,000 payment to Daniels is among the investigative threads that federal investigators are exploring in his case. He, along with Trump lawyer Charles Harder, have argued the case should be sent to private arbitration - as is required under the agreement.

Cohen's attorney did not respond to a request for comment from the Daily News.

The raids sought documents relating to Daniels and other matters.

Ms Daniels, who was not party to the proceedings, made a decision to show up and call a press conference over an unrelated dispute she has with Mr Cohen. "It is esp. stunning seeing as MC served as the "fixer" for Mr. Trump for over 10 yrs".
