Trump threatens opponents of USA's World Cup bid

CAF President Calls on European Federations to Vote for Morocco's 2026 World Cup Bid

Billions of dollars are at stake in a World Cup bid.

The Morocco bid is expected to receive strong backing from FIFA's African and Middle East countries.

The Fifa 2026 bid evaluation taskforce - which recently visited North American and Moroccan cities - includes Samoura's two deputies, Marco Villiger and former AC Milan player Zvonimir Boban. He said an official report on the issues was being drawn up. "This is not only about our stadiums and our hotels and all of that".

"We were part of the preparation, we can say that it was with a modest sum of money, but these are our means", he said. "We do the best we can". The continent represents FIFA's largest voting bloc with 54 votes, which is just over half of what's needed to win hosting rights. Lingering resentment over the U.S. Department of Justice investigation into Federation Internationale de Football Association corruption has also hampered the U.S. -led bid's effort to attract votes.

The decision over whom to award the 2026 World Cup could also be plunged into doubt following the claims. "That's not a lot".

"Morocco is ready, even if they don't have the same means as their fellow contenders. For all of that, we think that Europe should vote for Morocco".

Elalamy told the Associated Press news agency that Morocco still has to "improve the quality of our bid book, with last week's inspection team having "made some remarks on the conditions of some of the stadia".

"From the beginning, we have received strong support from the Canadian, Mexican, and United States governments".

Still, Morocco has support beyond Africa, despite predicting ticket sales to fans totaling $1.3 billion less than the North American bid projects.

FIFA issued a statement to Reuters saying that while it can not comment on specific remarks about the World Cup, it pointed to its rules of conduct, which prohibit governments from interfering in national soccer federations and from exerting "undue influence" on the selection of the World Cup host.
