NFL Draft 2018: Steelers select potential Ben Roethlisberger successor Mason Rudolph

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is 36 years old and he is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. As we look ahead to day three, there are three quarterbacks who seem to be standing out above the rest and a few teams still looking for quality backups or possible future starters.

The 6-4, 227-pound Rudolph threw for 4,904 yards with 37 touchdowns and nine interceptions in his senior season.

In the second round, the Steelers selected WR James Washington from Oklahoma State, a very capable replacement after trading Martavis Bryant Thursday to Oakland.

The Pittsburgh Steelers picked up North Carolina State fullback Jaylen Samuels in the fifth round of the National Football League draft. He and Taylor Moton - a 2017 second-round draft pick by the Carolina Panthers - anchored a Broncos offensive line that allowed just 16 sacks all season.

As for Rudolph himself, he'll have a chance to learn from Roethlisberger and ease his way in to an offense that features some of the most explosive playmakers in the NFL.

Not long after, Washington learned he would be joined by a familiar face in Pittsburgh.

It isn't often a third-round draft pick captures the essence of a draft.

Pittsburgh traded up from No. 79 to No. 76 to select Rudolph, who had been talked about as a player who could sneak into the first round after a stellar career at Oklahoma State.

Five quarterbacks were taken in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. The Cowboys should have more draft picks on Saturday in rounds 4-7, including receiver Marcell Ateman.
