Simon Harris to organise free repeat smear tests after cervical cancer controversy

Vicky Phelan leaves court after the announcement of a settlement

When she had another spread test in 2014 she had cervical cancer.

She added: 'He also wanted to thank me for still encouraging women to go for smears and for promoting the cervical screening programme'.

She was responding to comments by CervicalCheck clinical director Dr Grainne Flannelly, who said she could not be sure all of the women have yet been told about their reports.

Ms Phelan, of Carrigeen, Annacotty, Co Limerick alongside her better half Jim Phelan has sued the Health Service Executive and Clinical Pathology Laboratories Inc, Austin, Texas, over a spread test taken under the National Cervical Screening Program CervicalCheck and dissected in the U.S. research facility.

The HSE said treating clinicians were informed about these findings and were asked to communicate with their patients directly where clinically appropriate.

She had another spread test in June 2014 and when it was sent off for examination it demonstrated a high review sore and Ms Phelan was alluded to an advisor.

The lid was blown on the CervicalCheck cancer earlier this month when Limerick mum-of-two Vicky Phelan, 43, took a High Court case against the HSE and the Texas-based lab which distributed her smear test results in 2011.

"[My doctor] told me he knew of three", she says.

"I would like this evening to announce that I have taken a decision to stand aside from my role as Clinical Director of CervicalCheck with immediate effect".

"The HSE has confidence that the programme's leadership team is dedicated to this important goal and is working hard to meet it".

A 43-year-old woman who was given mistaken test outcomes and is now critically ill with cervical cancer has settled her High Court activity against a U.S. lab for €2.5m.

'At no stage was any flag raised that there were any other women involved in this as well, this was an information note about one case.

THE MOTHER OF TWO appeared on Saturday's Ray D'Arcy show to tell her heartbreaking story of a delayed cervical cancer diagnosis.

Overall, just over 200 women with cervical cancer who had smear tests should have received earlier intervention than they did, the HSE noted.

Ms Phelan spoke movingly of the impact the dramatic revelations of the last week and her powerful speech outside the High Court has had on her family.

"I said to him basically look, what has happened to me is very bad".

"I am terminally-ill and there is no cure for my cancer".
