US concerned by "destabilising and malign activities" of Iran -Pompeo

Pompeo was one of the first Trump administration officials to visit Saudi Arabia early in his tenure as Central Intelligence Agency director.

"America is prepared to stand with Saudi Arabia in pursuit of the shared interests and security", he said.

"They committed to continue working closely together and with the US on how to tackle the range of challenges that Iran poses", the statement from May's office said.

The Palestinians, who claim Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem as their capital, have harshly criticized the U.S. move and all but cut off ties with the White House.

Pompeo also addressed the rift between Qatar and its neighbours, telling reporters after leaving Riyadh: "We are hopeful that they will, in their own way, figure out how to remove the dispute between them". The attack is the latest sign that the raging civil war in Yemen continues to further threaten stability in the region.

Pompeo reassured Saudi Arabia that the United States would abandon the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran.

The tough line was welcomed by his hosts, particularly in Israel, which considers Iran its greatest threat and has led calls for the West to revise or reject the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran.

Darvish rebounds in Cubs' victory
Rangers 6, Blue Jays 4 • Ronald Guzman hit a tiebreaking two-run single in the sixth inning, and Texas beat visiting Toronto. Manager Joe Maddon said the 2016 NL MVP might be available off the bench for Chicago's series opener against Milwaukee.

The Elysee said that Mr Macron raised "three additional, indispensable subjects" not covered by the current deal with Mr Rouhani, citing Tehran's ballistic missile programmes, its nuclear activities beyond 2025 and Iran's destabilising influence in the Middle East. "In fact, Iran has only behaved worse since deal was approved", Pompeo said.

On Friday, after talks with North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies in Brussels, Pompeo appeared to suggest that Trump plans to nix the nuclear deal. Trump has said he will decide in the next two weeks whether the USA will pull out of the deal.

"I don't think Kim Jong-un is staring at the Iran deal and saying, 'Oh goodness, if they get out of that deal, I won't talk to the Americans anymore.' There are higher priorities, things he is more concerned about than whether the Americans stay" in the accord, Pompeo said.

Earlier this month, Jubeir said Saudi Arabia would be prepared to send troops into Syria under the USA -led coalition if a decision is taken to widen it.

Although Netanyahu praised the USA recognition of Jerusalem as bold and historic, he met Pompeo in Tel Aviv, not in Jerusalem as originally planned. He tells ABC News that he met Kim with "a clear mission" of irreversible denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula, and that there is still a lot to be done before that goal is reached.

Apart from updating Netanyahu on the looming decision on whether to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal and coordinating ways to contain Iran in Syria, the Pompeo visit serves to set him apart from his predecessor, Rex Tillerson.

Two days later, the US embassy in Jerusalem is scheduled to open its doors.
