White House tree planted by Trump and Macron vanishes

Britain, France and Germany reaffirmed their backing for the Iran nuclear deal, despite Donald Trump's threat to walk away.

A yellow spot is seen where the tree planted by French President Emmanuel Macron and U.S. President Donald Trump on April 23 stood on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, U.S., April 28, 2018.

"It was actually a special favour from Trump to France to be able to plant the tree the day of the president's visit", an official from Macron's office said.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and US President Donald Trump have aired differences over trade and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation at a White House meeting where they tried to put on a show of warmth despite tensions between the two allies.

"They agreed that there were important elements that the deal does not cover, but which we need to address - including ballistic missiles, what happens when the deal expires and Iran's destabilising regional activity".

The Liverpool hospital has faced several protests in recent weeks, organized by a group calling itself "Alfie's Army". The parents of Alfie Evans plan to meet with his doctors on Thursday to discuss bringing the terminally ill boy home.

"The nuclear deal or any other subject under its pretext is not negotiable in any way", Rouhani told Macron in a telephone call quoted by the website of the Iranian presidency.

"Our priority as an worldwide community remained preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapon", said the statement from 10 Downing Street, referring to the three European leaders.

The three-year-old agreement was created to curb Iran's nuclear programme but has been declared "insane" and "ridiculous" by Trump.

The first column is the current nuclear treaty with Iran. Tehran, whose leaders have said they seek to destroy Israel, has steadfastly supported the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the ongoing conflict in Syria, and has provided weapons to the Houthi rebels in Yemen, who have fired missiles on U.S. Navy ships and Saudi Arabia.

Trump is expected to announce his decision by the May 12 deadline, whether or not he is imposing economic sanctions against Iran. He also wants to scrap the deal's so-called "sunset clauses", one of which allows for the lifting of restrictions on Iran's nuclear enrichment programme after 2025.
