At Least 26 Killed in Missile Attack on Syria, Iranian Positions

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu speaks at a press conference in Tel Aviv Israel

Assad said that Iran has consistently supported Damascus, helping to preserve the unity and sovereignty of Syria.

Before the surprise announcement, Netanyahu canceled a speech at the parliament and convened an emergency meeting of his Security Cabinet at Israeli military headquarters in Tel Aviv.

A war monitor, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said Sunday's attack had targeted a warehouse for rockets and killed 26 people, mostly Iranians and Iraqis.

Israel does not usually comment on military operations overseas. The White Home stated the 2 leaders mentioned the persevering with threats and challenges dealing with the Middle East, "particularly the issues posed by the Iranian regime's destabilizing actions".

He has threatened to hit back if Iran retaliates for the attack on T-4. Israel is known to have these weapons, which were acquired from the United States.

The target of the attack was depots of ground-to-ground missiles belonging to the Iranian militiamen, the report said. Only four of the dead were Syrian.

An additional 60 fighters were also wounded and several others were reported missing, the SOHR said, according to the AP.

"All these reports over attack on an Iranian military base in Syria and the martyrdom of several Iranian military advisers in Syria are baseless", an official told Iran's Tasnim news agency. The report could not be independently confirmed. Syria will become the anchor point for the Iranians' domination of the Middle East, and it's a major, major victory for them if we do that.

Echoing him, US Defence Secretary James Mattis warned on 26 April that it was "very likely" Israel and Iran were on a collision course. Trump has set a Might 12 deadline to resolve whether or not to tug out of the Iran nuclear deal.

The working assumption is that Israel hit storage areas where Iran kept heavy long-range rockets for future use against Israel. Israel generally neither confirms nor denies such airstrikes.

"They know if they enter military conflict with Iran, they will be hit multiple times", he said in comments during a meeting with workers, according to his website.

Syria condemned the attack as a "new aggression". Israel's Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman has been meeting with his U.S. counterpart James Mattis in Washington. It did not elaborate. And if Russia's veto of any intervention in Syria or the US's veto of any intervention in Israel continue to frustrate the wishes of a wider world then we need to reform and redraw its articles.

A number of Syrian military bases in Hama and Aleppo were struck by "hostile missiles" fired by an identified enemy on Sunday night, Syrian state media reported.

Syrian troops have been on the offensive against militants in Yarmouk camp.

Later on Monday, Syrian state TV said the army would cease fire for 48-72 hours in the pocket between Homs and Hama - the most populous remaining encircled area in Syria - to allow rebel groups to agree a surrender deal under which they would leave for opposition-held areas in northern Syria. Tehran has sent thousands of fighters to bolster Assad, including proxy forces from Iraq and Afghanistan.
