Google marks International Labour Day with special doodle

It's May Day. Here's what that means

To honour the working class, May 1 is celebrated as International Labour Day, also known as May Day.

"As we celebrate Labor Day, we honor the men and women who fought tirelessly for workers' rights, which are so critical to our strong and successful labor force". In North India, Labour Day is mostly not given its previous importance as a holiday now. With the rise of industrialization, the labour class was exploited and often had to work for 15 hours a day.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has extended wishes for happiness, peace, prosperity and insurance of labor rights to all the Nepali workers spread around the globe on the occasion of the International Workers' Day or May Day.

Motivational Speeches are also delivered by officials and award ceremonies are conducted for model workers, who make remarkable contributions for China and CPC Party respectively.

The origins of the day date back to the 19th century, when trade unionists, socialists and Communists in the United States first protested the long hours and poor conditions under which labourers were being made to work in. It has tried and included everything that showcases works done by labourers.

India's working population is a significant contributor to the country's economy.

Nepali President Bidya Devi Bhandari, on the occasion of World labour Day, wished for peace, happiness and prosperity, guarantee of labour rights and favourable working environment for the people living at home and overseas.

The most prominent of those laws is the Factories Act of 1948 that supervises the disbursement of fair wages to factory workers in addition to ensuring lawful working hours and overtime benefits.

The observance, in fact, commemorates the aftermath of a bombing at a labour protest against the police in Chicago in 1886. The event lead to the death of eight workers.

Anti-capitalist protests have also becomes synonymous with the date. In the letter, they expressed their determination to work hard to achieve more going forward.
