New York Mets right to cut ties with Matt Harvey

Matt Harvey partied in LA night before wobbly game

Just a few weeks after being moved to the bullpen by the New York Mets, Matt Harvey is close to joining another team. Harvey is 0-2 with a 7.00 ERA in four starts and four relief appearances.

The designation will occur on Saturday, Alderson said. Thoracic outlet syndrome affected Harvey's feel for pitching and location, he said, but added that Harvey is healthy and has enough velocity. Because of Harvey's $5,625,000 salary, a trade may be hard to work out unless the Mets agree to send cash as part of a deal.

Harvey is eligible for free agency at the end of this season.

Trying to resuscitate Harvey's career, the Mets moved Harvey from the starting rotation to the bullpen almost two weeks ago.

"This was a long time coming", Alderson told reporters.

Of course, another report of late-night partying didn't help Harvey's cause.

Selected seventh overall in the 2010 amateur draft, Harvey made his major league debut in July 2012.

It appears Matt Harvey's days as the Dark Knight of Gotham are over.

The New York Yankees have emerged as a potential landing spot for Harvey after the Mets moved to cut ties with him, with a number of Major League Baseball beat writers suggesting that the Bronx Bombers may be interested in taking a flyer on Harvey. The following season, he went 9-5 with a 2.27 ERA, as giddy Mets fans celebrated each of his starts like a holiday, called "Harvey Day".

Harvey never shied away from the lifestyle afforded an athlete in New York City, dating supermodels and hitting up top clubs.

Harvey returned from the injury in 2015 by going 13-8 with a 2.71 ERA and helping the Mets reach the World Series. Since then, Harvey's ERA has ballooned and the former star pitcher has allowed 21 runs in just 27 innings pitched.

The 29-year-old right-hander lost his spot in the rotation last month after four starts, and he had a 10.50 ERA in four relief appearances. He underwent Tommy John surgery in October and missed the entire 2014 season.
