Israeli army opens fire on Gaza protesters sixth week in a row

IDF Develops Gunsight That Will Aid Soldiers in Shooting Down Fire Kites

On Saturday evening, may 5, in the explosion in Central Gaza killed five Palestinian Arabs.

Supporters of Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman hold up a giant banner reading: "Only Liberman understands Arabic - don't mess with him" near the Israel-Gaza border, May 4, 2018.

Due to strong winds from the east, smoke from their burning tires and tear gas pushed numerous Gazans back from the fence.

At least a dozen young Palestinians broke through the border fence dividing Israel from Gaza on Friday, according to a video broadcast on Al Jazeera.

"Over the past five weeks, five children were killed and hundreds were injured in largely peaceful protests in Gaza", UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa Geert Cappelaere said in a statement on Friday.

The Palestinians and human rights groups have criticised Israel for using live fire against the protesters.

The Izzedine al-Qassam Brigades, military wing of the Hamas militant group, blamed Israel, but the Israeli military said it was not involved.

Israel is closely guarding the fence and warns it will not tolerate attempts to breach it.

Demonstrators burn tires, throw stones and Molotov cocktails, set fire to the kites and try to damage the border fence.

A 32-year-old man wearing a camouflage hat with his face masked, a traditional keffiyeh scarf around his neck, said they hoped to fly around 50 kites.

There were no early reports of deaths on Friday, but more than 350 Palestinians have been injured so far.

In addition, two army drones crashed in the Gaza Strip during the day's events.

The military has faced global criticism over its use of live fire, with the United Nations and European Union calling for an independent investigation rejected by Israel.

We will remind that on April 27 during the clashes on the border between the Gaza strip and Israel, Israeli troops shot dead three Palestinians.

Demonstrators are demanding the right to return to their homes seized by Israel in 1948, which Israel argues would effectively spell the end of their country.
