National Hockey League playoffs 2018: Updated bracket after Golden Knights beat Sharks

A first year National Hockey League expansion team is kicking ass and taking names in the regular season and in the playoffs! "We've got guys leaving the zone, they get a 3-on-2 or a breakaway".

The Vegas Golden Knights are an opportunistic team. Vegas rode the hot start to a 51 win season, 109 points, and the division title.

The Vegas Golden Knights have made plenty of history so far this season, making the playoffs in their inaugural year, getting their first playoff win in their first game, becoming the first NHL, MLB or National Basketball Association expansion team to sweep a series in their first year, and now, advancing to the Western Conference finals thanks to a 3-0 win in a road Game Six against the San Jose Sharks Sunday night.

Fleury, for his part, made 28 saves to record his second shutout of the series and his fourth of the playoffs. Two of those games came in Game 4's 4-0 shutout. The team is now 8-2 in the playoffs as they swept the LA Kings in round one and won in six games against the San Jose Sharks in round two.

Vlasic and Braun were largely tasked with the matchup against the Golden Knights' top line, with the Sharks' forward line of Logan Couture, Tomas Hertl and Mikkel Boedker also taking on that responsibility. He did not let the home team get the early momentum in an elimination game which is key to a road team having success. They have the chance to be the first ever expansion team in any sport to win a championship. But his attempt from in close went off the cross-bar and wound up behind the net.

After losing to the Golden Knights in six games, Sharks coach Peter DeBoer wasn't most impressed by Vegas' relentless forecheck, its 43-goal scorer in William Karlsson, or its all-star goalie in Marc-Andre Fleury. After deflecting to Timo Meier, the left winger fired at the net under Fleury and wide of the goal.

"Sometimes you have to give credit to the other guy", Burns said.

Trailing by two, the Sharks only shot three times in the first 13-and-a-half minutes of the third period.

Fleury stopped 70 of 71 first-period shots in total, good for a.986 first-period save percentage. The deflection carried out to Reilly Smith who was blocked by Tierney this time, keeping the score 1-0. David Perron won a faceoff and Schmidt took a shot that appeared to deflect off the post and out.

The Sharks began the final frame in a 2-0 hole, their lives on the line. Their pressure on the puck is relentless, especially when they've got the freedom to be aggressive. While Fleury gave up more goals in this series than he did in the four-game sweep of the Los Angeles Kings, he was still incredible.

The Golden Knights then added to the lead after an icing by Brent Burns led to an offensive zone faceoff.

There was a no-goal call on a scruff in front of Jones which was determined to be a no-goal when the puck was pushed into the net. along with Jones and went in after the whistle had been blown. The fact that Vegas has qualified for the Western Conference Final is remarkable when you consider the fact that the Golden Knights are an expansion franchise.
