76ers' Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, Excited For Future After Loss To Celtics

Markelle Fultz

The Philadelphia 76ers saw their 2017-18 season come to a disappointing end in five games against the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference semifinals on Wednesday night. Keep in mind this was a Sixers team coming off a 10-win season past year, and to see them advance as far as they did in the playoffs was truly wonderful, as Brett Brown knows the future is bright for his team. "I feel like I had a lot more to go". We've gotta learn from it. Boston performed better with the games on the line, though, and deservedly advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals to square off with LeBron James and the Cavs.

Even if Embiid and the Sixers found a way to win Game 5, they still faced a severe uphill battle to win two more and do what's literally never been done in an National Basketball Association playoff series.

After the game, Philadelphia head coach Brett Brown said he wasn't ready to reflect on anything the Sixers might have accomplished during the season. And going into the playoffs we felt like we had a really good chance, especially after winning 16 in a row (to close the regular season).

"Down deep, I get what we did", Brown said.

76ers president and general manager Bryan Colangelo also has plenty of tools to strengthen the roster.

The Celtics, meanwhile, got some amazingly clutch performances out of their most promising young talents, particularly Tatum, Brown, and Marcus Smart. The ratings scale is 1-5 stars. But on Wednesday, the loss to Boston - and what could have been - was foremost on their minds.

The Celtics have exposed Simmons' poor shooting by standing off him and daring him to shoot while smothering the 76ers' arsenal of three-point shooters JJ Redick, Dario Saric, Marco Belinelli and Ersan Ilyasova with defenders. "I feel like I had a lot more to go", he said.
