Iran nuclear deal should be preserved despite USA withdrawal: Russian FM

Лавров рассказал о разочаровании Трампом

U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday that the United States will withdraw from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal, and impose "the highest level" of economic sanctions on Tehran, triggering global outcry.

The Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov officially confirmed that Russia will remain a member of the "nuclear agreement" with Iran.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov takes his seat during a joint press conference with his German counterpart following their talks in Moscow on May 10, 2018.

The 2015 nuclear agreement placed unprecedented restrictions on Iran's nuclear program in exchange for billions of dollars in relief from global sanctions, but Trump has consistently railed against it since he began his bid for America's highest office, repeatedly claiming it is the "worst deal" he has ever seen.

The European partners of the United States, Britain, Germany and France also commented on the decision of the us leader.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov Thursday called for dialogue between Israel and Iran following Israeli strikes on Iranian targets in Syria that marked a sharp escalation between the two enemies.

In a phone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that the Europeans and the five other signatories "should now work to decide and transparently announce the measures they plan to take in order to make up for the U.S. exit from the JCPOA".

Lavrov said Russian Federation values Iran's "balanced" position and will hold consultations on the future of the pact with the other signatories.
