Pak-Trained Man Planned High-Profile Assassinations In Mumbai, Arrested

Lord Nazeer says Nawaz Sharif is trying to undermine Pakistan’s institutions

The man allegedly receved training in a terrorist camp in Pakistan and had returned to Mumbai with a plan to carry out attacks in the country.

The Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad has arrested a 32-year-old Mumbai based man suspected of being a possible suicide attacker. The operation to nab one more terror suspect in the city is now underway. Mirza, according to the ATS, had received training in bomb-making, suicide bombing and use of weapons in Pakistan.

On Saturday, Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif admitted in an interview to Pakistani media that Pakistan played a role in the 26/11 + Mumbai terror attacks. He was then called to Sharjah from Mumbai, and from there he was taken to Karachi. The investigation team, questioning the accused, Mirza Faizal Khan, also learnt that he was allegedly assigned the job of assassinating a top politician from a ruling party apart from causing explosions in some parts of India.

Mirza, an electrician, was picked in a joint operation by Maharashtra ATS and Kolkata Special Task Force (STF). "After staying in Sharjah for a few days, Mirza is believed to have moved to Dubai from where he traveled to Karachi", said another officer.

The official said the arrested man's interrogation had revealed that he was part of a terror group that planned to carry out attacks on "public utilities" and crowded places. The accused was produced in a sessions court and he has been remanded in the ATS custody till May 21.

"We will question him on the identities of those who met him and the ISI contact who allegedly shadowed him to the terror camps", added an ATS source.
