US Air Force stealth fighter jets intercept 2 Russian nuclear-capable bombers off Alaska coast

The identification zone extends about 200 miles off the Alaskan coast and is mostly global airspace, Miller said, though Russian military activity will often prompt an in-kind response for US warplanes.

Russian nuclear forces dispatch two strategic bombers into the air defense zone near Alaska on Friday and the aircraft were intercepted by American F-22 jets, the U.S. Northern Command said.

American F-22 fighter jets intercepted two Russian Tu-95 bomber off the coast of Alaska.

According to authorities, the interception occurred in worldwide airspace near the West coast of Alaska North of the Aleutian Islands.

The statement said the Russian jets were "intercepted and monitored" but never entered U.S. airspace.

They said the bombers were escorted by fighter jets and a reconnaissance jet that also acts as an anti-submarine platform.

The bombers were flying in worldwide airspace and "flying according to global norms", he said.

The US fighter jets did not get closer than 100 meters to the Russian bombers, the Russian Defense Ministry was quoted as saying on Saturday by the RIA news agency.

Information publication The Washington Free Beacon has published information about what Russian bombers model Tu-95 in the area under the control of NORAD, which took the complete identification of aircraft. "Unsafe actions‎ increase the risk of miscalculation and midair collisions".
