"It's not surprising, to be honest", Jason Seaman said of his brother's heroics. A teacher was able to swat the gun away.

At a Friday afternoon press conference police said the IN school shooter asked to be excused from class, then returned with 2 handguns.

The son of a WISH-TV producer has said that a shooter is in custody.

The police chief says the student asked to be excused from class, then returned with two handguns and opened fire. A 17-year-old student at the school was taken into custody. He didn't confirm accounts that the teacher tackled the shooter after he fired four to six shots.

Another student was being treated at Riverview Health in Noblesville with a fractured ankle.

A teacher and a teenage student were injured in a shooting at an in middle school on Friday morning and another student was in custody, police said, the latest in a series of shootings at American schools and colleges that reignited a debate on keeping campuses safe.

Jason Seaman, identified by his mother and students as the hero teacher, was shot three times Friday morning as he lunged at the gunman in a bid to protect his class. "You could always trust him to do the right thing", Hill said.

The shooting happened one week after two teachers and eight students were killed, and 10 other people were wounded in a shooting at Santa Fe High School in Texas.

Exactly a week later, Noblesville West Middle School in IN has become the latest victim of gun violence, as a teacher and teenage girl have been critically injured after a gunman opened fire. Jowitt said that classroom is where the shooting occurred and that the incident was resolved quickly. Officials said they will not yet release the conditions of the victims.

The teacher was transported to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital and the student was taken to Riley Hospital for Children, IU Health spokeswoman Danielle Sirilla said.

Students from the middle school were taken to nearby Noblesville High School, where their families were instructed to pick them up. One victim is a teacher that was shot while taking down the shooter. The situation is contained.

"Staff were prepared; they knew what they were doing, and I couldn't be more proud".

The middle school was on lockdown part of the morning, said Jackie Chatteron, a receptionist for the school district. "We have not received any information that this has been anything other than a communicated threat".
