Travelers killing time at Tampa International Airport's Gasparilla Bar got an unexpected show Friday when a dog gave birth to eight puppies near Gate F81.

Ellie - short for Eleanor Rigby - gave birth to seven boys and one girl.

Emily Nipps, A spokeswoman for the airport, said: "I've never seen anything like this in an airport, or otherwise".

And even though they missed their flight, Van Atter is going hom e with some special souvenirs born in the Sunshine State.

Fortunately, Tampa Fire & Rescue's Aircraft Rescue Firefighters paramedics were close by to help out with the canine delivery. "That's all", said Diane Van Atter, owner of Ellie the service dog.

While traveling through the concourse on the way to catch a flight to Philadelphia, a passenger's service dog unexpectedly went into labor.

The puppies' father, Nugget, looked on during the birth. "Every time she's ready to deliver another one he starts jumping around". They were aware that Ellie was pregnant, but didn't realize how far along she was.

The puppies aren't allowed to fly for another eight weeks so Van Atter said she will drive home with them.
