Bryson DeChambeau takes one-shot lead as Tiger Woods lurks at Memorial

Hideki Matsuyama holed out from the fairway on his way to a seven-under 65 at Muirfield Village on Friday

Bryson DeChambeau has fended off a packed leaderboard including Tiger Woods to take the 54-hole lead at the US PGA Tour's Memorial tournament.

The 12th proved a pivotal turning point as Cantlay dropped his first shot of the day and DeChambeau leapt into the outright lead with a 10-foot putt for birdie, while Stanley appeared to be out of contention as he ran up a double-bogey five. He missed the green from the fairway on the 18th on the first extra hole and had to scramble for par.

That left DeChambeau with an eight-foot putt for par and the title but it drifted left and he signed for a one-under 71. He played well all day but the highlight was a hole in one at the...

Tiger Woods is back in action this week at the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio, his ninth tournament on Tour this year.

Woods was 95 yards out on his third shot and the ball landed just long of the flag before spinning back into the cup.

Woods rolled in a 14-foot eagle putt at the par-five fifth and was five-under for the day through nine. And then he three-putted two of the last three holes, missing a par putt just over 3 feet on the 18th, and all he had to show for it was a 68. "But I'm in a position where if I shoot another good round like I had the last two days, I've got a chance".

"Overall, if I just keep building on this, with how I'm hitting it right now, I'm in good shape for two weeks from now".

"I shot 68 today but, again, that's probably the highest score I could have possibly shot today", he said.

"I missed a lot of short putts which is something I don't normally do, which is just frustrating". The last time he won the Memorial Tournament was in 2012.

Patrick Cantlay also had a chance on Sunday, leading by two shots going to the back nine.

DeChambeau gained the advantage again as he followed another ideal three-wood with a much better approach to 12 feet, while An tugged his second towards the gallery before playing a sublime flop-shot to five feet to put the pressure on the American. He made birdie at the first, and the galleries went wild as he pulled within a few of the lead.

Rory McIlroy made bogeys on both par 5s on the front nine as he tried to finish strong. An hit a remarkable flop shot to within a few feet, meaning he would nearly certainly make par.

LPGA - Ariya Jutanugarn turned a three-shot deficit into a four-shot lead after shooting 5-under 67 at the US Women's Open at Shoal Creek in Birmingham, Ala.
