IOS Apps Are Finally Coming to Mac

The macOS Mojave update has a number of new features including Dark Mode, Desktop Stacks, a redesigned Mac App Store, and more.

On the other hand, if you were going into WWDC '18 expecting mind-blowing and groundbreaking new features, you might have felt that the keynote fell a bit short. There is also a Facebook-like feature which tells the users about photos they look previous year as a memory reminder.

And no, Apple is not merging macOS and iOS - but it is bringing some iOS apps to the Mac. Apple is also offering an API for developers to implement Dark Mode in their apps.

Apple's next version of macOS, Mojave, adds a "dark mode" that will change the bright silvers and grays across the program's windows into shades of black.

To more cheers from developers, Apple also announced a redesigned Mac App Store for the Mojave update, expanding a new look the company introduced to iPhones and iPads a year ago. It also says developers must not discourage the use of in-pp purchases, even though they offer their goods elsewhere.

Apple has also managed to get Microsoft to bring its Office suite to the Mac App Store which should make its debut later this year. If you click this thumbnail, it opens in a new Finder-based image editing mode which looks pretty feature-rich.

There will be contextual quick actions available as well, such as editing options for photos or create PDF for instance.

With the new color scheme, Mac programs and controls will recede into the desktop's background, letting other content such as pictures, graphics, and video "pop" off the screen, Apple said during its developer conference on Monday. New features include contact stacks, to organize all files of a similar kind on your desktop. Today Lauren Goode of Wired has published a new interview with Federighi in which a few additional details are shared on exactly how porting apps from iOS to Mac will work.

Nobody really likes paying for apps, but sometimes we might have to bite the bullet and pay a couple of quid for some piece of software we could really use on our phones.

Among the most intriguing updates in Mojave is the inclusion of additional privacy and security measures in Safari, where Intelligent Tracking Prevention will help to block social media "Like" or "Share" buttons and comment widgets from tracking users without permission. Would you use Digital Wellbeing / Screen Time? Plus, it's getting iCloud syncing so it'll work well across all your devices.

After four mountainous macOS releases, Apple has left the high road and entered the desert.

We already knew that Dark Mode would be coming to the operating system, which can now be found on the company's lineup of notebook and desktop PCs.
