Last week, the reality star lobbied the president for Johnson's clemency. Johnson never sold, manufactured or trafficked any drugs, according to the New Haven Independent in CT, which reported on her talk at Yale.

Johnson was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole, and appellate courts and the U.S. Supreme Court had denied her appeals.

"Where I'm at in my life right now, just like, to go and spend my money buying material things just doesn't satisfy me the way that it used to", she said in the interview.

Kardashian West welcomed Trump's action on Twitter, writing: "BEST NEWS EVER!". She went on to say that her heart "is so full of gratitude for the lovely inside and out Kim Khardashian West who made a decision to advocate for and essentially save the life of my mother, someone she had never heard of or met!"

Johnson is a great-grandmother who has never met her grandchildren or great-grandchildren. 'No matter what, you never let anyone else dictate your life!

- Kim Kardashian West (@KimKardashian) June 6, 2018BREAKING: President Trump has granted clemency to #AliceMarieJohnson after meeting with @KimKardashian West to talk about her case last week.

Johnson had an emotional reunion with her family Wednesday outside the prison in Aliceville, Alabama, where she served.

Johnson had her life sentence commuted on Wednesday by President Trump after spending 22 years behind bars.

"But this is seriously such an honor", she continued, "so thank you to the CFDA for this award". Her commutation is inspirational & gives hope to so many others who are deserving of a second chance.

Johnson's case caught nationwide attention after the reality-television star Kim Kardashian West took notice of her case previous year and retained an attorney to help her clemency bid.

Her meeting also followed Kanye West's social media onslaught of MAGA imagery and related views.

Sanders added: "while this Administration will always be very tough on crime, it believes that those who have paid their debt to society and worked hard to better themselves while in prison deserve a second chance". "I'm not bitter about it", she said.

Johnson has a job lined up as an administrative assistant in a dental office, but she said she'll keep pushing for sentencing reform for nonviolent first-time offenders who don't pose a threat to their communities.
