Trump plows into G7 summit, facing foreign critics

"If they thought they were going to lecture Trump on the glories of free trade, they got a rude awakening". "The six countries of the G7 without the United States, are a bigger market taken together than the American market".

President Donald Trump spoke during a news conference at the G-7 summit today. But Vice President Mike Pence called and demanded he agree to a clause that would end NAFTA unless the three countries agreed to extend it every five years. "The administration has also proven no fan of ocean protection, advocating drilling the high seas anywhere there's oil to be potentially found".

Talk at the two-day summit has been dominated by discussion of Trump's move to impose punitive tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, Mexico and the European Union - a move French President Emmanual Macron has called "illegal and a mistake" under World Trade Organization (WTO) rules.

Speaking at a news conference before leaving a G7 summit in Quebec, Trump insisted that the USA had always been victimized by its major allies and trading partners - flatly ignoring efforts by leaders of Europe's major industrial powers, plus Canada and Japan, to change his mind.

And more: "Looking forward to straightening out unfair Trade Deals with the G-7 countries".

Still, the US and European Union will establish a dialogue on trade within the next two weeks, signalling a modest step forward for the bitterly divided allies of the G7.

The German leader said there was broad agreement among G7 leaders that tariffs and other trade barriers should be reduced.

The tensions were on full display on Thursday, before the summit even started, with Trump engaging in a war of words with French President Emmanuel Macron and rebuking Trudeau as "indignant" for his opposition to the US tariffs.

His economic adviser Larry Kudlow backed up the call, saying, "We're going to clean up the global trade system".

Perez replaces Lanzini in Argentina World Cup squad
Perez will travel directly to Russian Federation from Argentina to meet up with his global teammates, who left Barcelona on Saturday.

President Trump on Saturday doubled down on his calls for Russian Federation to be reinstated to the G-7 group of nations, saying that the group would be more meaningful if that country could be brought back into the fold.

There's this meeting coming up in Singapore that Trump is much more interested in making than hanging around Quebec listening to 6 allies chew his ear off for going it alone on trade and climate change.

"We're not looking to play games", he said.

But, he said, the US could no longer tolerate "brutal" deals, even threatening to tear up the North American Free Trade Agreement if he didn't get his way.

The meeting is expected to be tense, and this is largely Trump's fault.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said Deputy Assistant to the President for International Economic Affairs Everett Eissenstat, will represent the United States for the G7 sessions that Trump will skip Saturday.

"In other words, let's say Canada, where ... the United States pays tremendous tariffs on dairy as an example - 270% - nobody knows that ... we don't want to pay anything".

Sources tell CBC News the USA will commit to lowering trade tariffs, but will leave its name off a commitment to implement the Paris climate agreement.
