Michael Cohen Dropped His Legal Representation, Is Expected to Cooperate with Mueller

Report: Michael Cohen ‘Likely’ to Cooperate With Federal Prosecutors

Cohen's attorneys, McDermott partners Stephen Ryan, based in Washington, D.C., and Todd Harrison, based in NY, did not respond to emails and phone calls seeking comment.

The WSJ reports Cohen's attorneys had been reviewing more than 3.7 million documents seized from Cohen, ahead of a Friday deadline set by Judge Kimba Wood of the Southern District of NY.

Patrick Cotter, a longtime former federal prosecutor who has worked with members of the special counsel Robert Mueller's team, said it was likely that Cohen's initial lawyers split because he raised the possibility of cooperating with prosecutors amid his mounting legal troubles.

U.S. President Donald Trump repaid his attorney Michael Cohen for an expense greater than $100,001 and less than $250,000 that was incurred in 2016, according to ethics disclosures signed by the President that were released by the Office of Government Ethics on Wednesday.

Trump allies view the legal cloud hanging over Trump's former attorney and fixer, Michael Cohen, as at least as ominous as the obstruction investigation.

McDermott did not immediately respond to the ABAJournal.com request for comment.

Wednesday it was reported the Cohen is now prepared to flip on Trump in hopes of getting a plea deal from federal prosecutors.

"Michael Cohen I think would tell you he's got nothing incriminating with the president", he said.

Gasparino said that Fox Business has confirmed that one of Cohen's attorneys, Stephen Ryan, could drop out of the case.

The investigation into Cohen is separate from special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into possible collusion between Russian Federation and the 2016 Trump campaign.

Avenatti set up the crowdfunding site on crowdjustice.com to help bankroll the defense of the porn star who claims she had an affair with Donald Trump in 2006 and wants relief from a nondisclosure agreement.

That's a bit of speculation on my part - maybe there's some other reason Cohen's lawyers are leaving - but as of now, it's the only connection that's evident. But not good news for Team Trump. You would think the president would be happy to pick up Cohen's legal bills, since the whole point of the document review is to protect material related to Cohen's work on Trump's behalf that isn't related to this case.

Trump has worked with Cohen for years.
