Federal Bureau of Investigation head proves Washington has a vendetta against Trump

President Donald Trump walks to an interview on the North Lawn of the White House June 15

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said on Thursday that a newly released Justice Department watchdog report "reaffirmed" President Donald Trump's "suspicions" about the conduct of former FBI Director James Comey and what she described as "political bias" among some FBI members.

The report released Thursday calls former FBI Director James Comey "insubordinate" and says his actions were "extraordinary".

Bernie Sanders was an "an idiot like [Donald] Trump" in a text message revealed in a brutal report from the Department of Justice's inspector general on the FBI's handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation.

Clinton has since said that Comey's letter contributed to her unexpected defeat by Trump.

"The end result was wrong", Trump said in an interview on the Fox News Channel.

The watchdog office said it could not be certain that the decision to prioritize the Russian Federation investigation in October 2016 over scouring the Weiner laptop for possible evidence against Clinton was free from bias. Mueller removed Strzok from his team after Horowitz disclosed the texts to him. The two expressed anti-Trump and pro-Clinton sentiments in text messages, and some Republicans have claimed they prove the Russian Federation investigation is tainted. "We'll stop it", Strzok responded.

The president said Friday that the IG report "totally exonerates me".

Concerned about the "appearance that former President Clinton was influencing" the probe, Lynch began talking to her staff the next morning about possibly recusing herself from overseeing the investigation, the report says.

In the middle of the campaign, Comey announced Clinton would not be prosecuted - a statement that would have normally been handled by the attorney general and drew heavy criticism.

Mr Trump said that Mr Comey's replacement, Christopher A Wray, "will bring it proudly back!"

Nevertheless, Clinton later blamed her loss to President Trump on Comey, who reopened the investigations into her private emails a week before the October election, after new emails were discovered on the laptop of Anthony Weiner.

The report says the exchange is "indicative of a biased state of mind" and "implies a willingness to take official action to impact the presidential candidate's electoral prospects". "We'll see what the conclusions are and I will challenge Mr. Horowitz [on whether] his conclusion that they weren't in the tank makes sense". He also said he not briefed his bosses beforehand on the findings. "I did a great service to the people in firing him", Trump tweeted.

The report also details anti-Trump instant messages between other employees assigned to the Clinton case. "There was no collusion, there was no obstruction, and the IG report yesterday went a long way to show that".

Republicans had been impatiently awaiting the release of the report into the law enforcement agency's probe, and recent reports had suggested that Inspector General Michael Horowitz's document would be critical of both the Justice Department itself and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Mueller is looking into the alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election and any potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow, among other matters that may arise from the investigation.

Onetime FBI attorney Lisa Page and current special agent Peter Strzok did not intend to leave for posterity a rich account of their thoughts and feelings as they lived through the events of 2016 - but that is what they have done.

Trump's claim came even as his former campaign chairman Paul Manafort, facing charges of money laundering and tax evasion, was jailed by a Virginia judge after Mueller's team showed the court evidence of witness tampering.
