Trump gives Kim 'direct number' to reach him

Kim Yong Chol and Mike Pompeo shake hands in New York

On Sunday morning, President Trump explained why he agreed to halt joint military exercises with South Korea during his meeting in Singapore with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un. I would love him to.

Referencing that remark, Reid asked Schwartz about Trump's praise of Kim Jong Un including going so far as to call Kim a "smart guy". He can now call me if he has any difficulty.

"We've legitimized a brutal dictator who's starved his own people", Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said on the Senate floor Tuesday. Things suddenly got better earlier this year when the two Koreas' leaders held a summit meeting and Kim extended an invitation to meet Trump. The human rights violations of North Korea can not be ignored because if we pretend that Kim Jong Un is going to denuclearize, that he's going to start treating the rest of the world well, then we have to pretend like he's not out there killing his own people. "Now there are prospects of resolving the problems by peaceful political and diplomatic means", he said.

After hours of discussions, Trump and Kim signed an agreement committing the United States to unspecified "security guarantees" in exchange for a denuclearized Korean Peninsula.

Intelligence officers also take into question Trump's suggest desire to end all joint military exercises between the United States and South Korea, a move it calls a "retreat" by the US and an acceptance of China's longstanding position to end the military exercises.

"That was my offer".

Isolated and subject to UN Security Council sanctions over its banned nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programmes, North Korea does not often host global sporting events. I don't know if that's supposed to be popular or politically correct to say. If we did, millions of people would have been killed.

He argued he was saving a lot of money by stopping the exercises.

The joint military exercises are separate from the regular military training between South Korea and the USA military, which Trump has said will continue.

The awkward moment raised some eyebrows because the US and North Korea technically are still at war. "We are holding our breath", he said.

About 28,500 US troops are stationed in South Korea, a legacy of the 1950-53 Korean War that ended in an armistice rather than a peace treaty, leaving the two Koreas technically still at war. Of them, 33,686 were killed and 3,737 went missing.

The poll also found Trump's overall approval rating at 43%, a marked improvement from the end of 2017, when polls regularly found him at historically low levels of approval.

"I think it's something that could happen", he said. "He's the head of a country". Don't let anyone think anything different. "The people of Asia feel safe, and right now the people from all over the world feel much safer than the days before I was president", Trump says in the video.

"You don't understand sarcasm", he told the reporter dismissively, with a wave of his hand.

North Korea has long labeled the larger exercises as acts of aggression.

"But more importantly than the document, I have a good relationship with Kim Jong Un", he said, adding that they have "great chemistry together". In an interview Friday, Trump seemed to admit he was glossing over human rights violations by the North Korean regime, and insisted that it was necessary for him to do so in order to avert nuclear war.
