YouTube to launch new music streaming service

Australia among first five countries to get new You Tube Music service next week

The company will roll out YouTube Music on May 22 in markets that now support its YouTube Red subscription service. It's just a $2 monthly premium on top of the music subscription.

The new YouTube Music streaming service will also feature a new mobile app and desktop player. The price for this service is $11.99 per month, and it includes YouTube Premium Music.

YouTube Music will eventually phase out Google Play Music, the company's previous music streaming service. The ad-free subscription service will go from $10 to $12 a month, but it includes the new ad-free premium music service. If you're already a YouTube Red (soon to be YouTube Premium) member, don't worry you'll still enjoy your current price.

Both the ad-supported and premium versions of YouTube Music will now offer location-based song recommendations.

There's no word on a family plan in Google's blog post announcement, but it's good news for Google Play Music subscribers - they'll get a YouTube Music Premium membership as part of their subscription each month. However unlike YouTube Music which will be a brand new service, YouTube Premium is simply a rebranding of an existing service, YouTube Red which you might be familiar with to be the home of original YouTube content, such as the more recent "Cobra Kai".

YouTube is finally planning to launch a new version of its music streaming service and it will be called YouTube Music.

As for pricing, YouTube Premium will cost $11.99 Dollars per month in the US, while YouTube Music on its own will cost $9.99 USD per month. You also won't be able to download music for offline listening on this tier either. Youtube said it will add more countries "soon", including Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.

The primary improvements over the Play Music app are the inclusion of official music videos and scores of unofficial remixes of prominent songs. Additionally, it provides YouTube Originals.

YouTube Red was great, but now it's being supplanted by YouTube Premium and it will cost more as of Tuesday.
